There are many things to love about Robin Shuler and Brandy Sullivan in Kathy and Mo: Parallel Lives. For instance, it's worth going just to see Robin portray a placenta. Now that's acting, and I'll bet you'll never hear someone playing afterbirth ask a director "What's my motivation?"
There is, however, one thing about this show that all audiences should know. After one particularly funny sketch, while the stage is dark and the set is being rearranged, the crew plays Kenny Rogers' 1980 hit Lady. Over the loudspeakers. In the dark.
And this is just absolutely uncalled for. In fact, if the federal government can require warnings on packs of cigarettes, then why can't consumers expect warning labels on theatrical productions?
WARNING: This comedic production contains more than 30 seconds of amplified, high-fidelity drivel sung by Kenny Rogers. Do not operate heavy machinery while listening. Repeated use may lead this song to become stuck in your head, leading to depression, anxiety and death.
Personally, I think this was someone's idea of a little sadistic joke
to play on the audience. "Hey, I know, let's make 'em actually LISTEN
to Lady! What a hoot!"
