Patrick Sharbaugh

Last year the City Paper published all of the winning Piccolo Short Fiction Contest stories in our mid-festival issue of the paper. We'd have been happy to step up again this year — particularly since two of the winning entries are from regular CP freelance contributors (J. Sanchez and J. Zwiker) — but our emails to the coordinators went unanswered until just a few days before the date of the issue. By that time, we'd firmed up our coverage schedule and no longer had room. Which is a shame, because we liked being part of the team last year. Hopefully we can make it happen again in '06.

...make it happen again in '06, yes, I agree (as one of the pfo organizers.) 2005 stories have been recorded for broadcast on SC Public Radio 'Your Day' (of 'got bugs?' fame-- programming starts at noon.)In preparation for 2006, I've set up a PFO website to serve as an archive, as linkage to writers and stories, and as the place that the 2006 call will be posted this fall. I'm interested in ideas for future format and venue changes (the competition culminates in a reading of the stories by the writers during the festival.) Where could we hold the readings so more people will come and hear-- rather than wait and read or listen? anyone? -- lisa rentz, pfo@eatgoodbread.com
