College of Charleston's music department has released the list of performers in its YOUNG ARTISTS SERIES for Piccolo Spoleto 2007:
The series opens Saturday, May 26 and runs through Saturday, June 9 and takes place in the Recital Hall in the Simons Center for the Arts, 54 St. Philip St. All performances begin at noon with $7 admission at the door. The Young Artists Series is comprised of music students from around the world including prizewinners in regional and national competitions.
Saturday, May 26 - Lieder and chanson from the Romantic Period sung by prize-winning singers Henriet Fourie, Johnathan White and Cameron Ulmer with pianist Robin Zemp
Sunday, May 27 - Piano favorites including Debussy’s “Clair de Lune,” Chopin’s “Heroic” Polonaise, Prokofieff’s Toccata, and Rachmaninoff Preludes performed by Sean Kennard, Hartmut Sauer, Virginia Haselden, Benny Plasencia and Ghadi Shayban
Monday, May 28 - College of Charleston Opera presents Gian Carlo Menotti’s music drama “The Medium”
Tuesday, May 29 - Song recital by Maria Antunez, soprano and Martin Nusspaumer, tenor, with pianist Hartmut Sauer performing Debussy’s “Fetes Galantes I and II” and Schumann’s “Dichterliebe”
Wednesday, May 30 - Chamber music with pianists Sean Kennard and Ghadi Shayban, cellist Jonah Kim and violinist Niccolo Muti perform works by Brahms, Grieg, Paganini and Dvorak
Thursday, May 31 - Faure’s Elegy for Eight Cellos, Schubert Arpeggione Sonata, Beethoven’s cello Sonata, Schumann Cello Fantasy and solo piano works by Bach and Rachmaninoff
Friday, June 1 - Brahms Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 2 performed on two pianos with Sean Kennard and Ciro Fodere
Saturday, June 2 - College of Charleston Opera performs Mozart’s hilarious one-act opera spoof, “The Impresario”
Sunday, June 3 - Piano works by Debussy, Ravel, and Rachmaninoff’s Third Piano Concerto, (the famous Rach 3) with Hartmut Sauer, Sean Kennard, Ciro Fodere and Ghadi Shayban performing
Monday, June 4 - An All-American Day of Singing - art songs and musical theatre selections from the Vocal/Choral program at the College of Charleston
Tuesday, June 5 - Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 by Bach, Piano Quartet in G Minor by Brahms, Bach’s Cello Suite with pianist Hartmut Sauer, violinist Tomas Jakubek, violist Peter Kiral and cellists Andrew Mille, Yun Hao Jiang and Wade Davis
Wednesday, June 6 - Piano Concertos by Ravel and Mozart performed on two pianos with pianists Benny Plasencia, Valeria Diaz and Ghadi Shayban
Thursday, June 7 - Violin, cello, guitar and piano. Works by Beethoven, Grieg, Brahms and Prokofieff with pianists Irina Pevzner, Sean Kennard, violinist Emma Hancock, guitarist Gregory Guay and cellists Andrew Mille and Wade Davis
Friday, June 8 - Guitar and Chamber music recital, works by Piazzolla, Brower and others with guitarist Ignacio Barcia, flutist Tacy Edwards, cellist Wade Davis, violist Peter Kiral and pianist Matthew Parker
